>>>> WEEK 01 <<<<
Based on taking the body language in the Translating project as a snippet. I took the idea of How to read a Lullaby as the beginning of the project experiment, recording the lullaby I sang by filming, capturing, and demonstrating the sequent vocal movements of the mouth. Hiding the voice, and gives a hint of the text. Invite the audience to participate in mimicking to identify the language.

>>>> FEEDBACK <<<<
MEDIA: photography, recording, language(phonetic), human
METHODS: narrating, sequencing, capturing, clipping/cropping/isolating, participating(link image with phonetic)
TOPICS: 1. The contrast is that we have all this information(image/ language), but we are unable to link it together to create the sound, and simple visual but cannot process it. we see the sound but we can not hear them. 2.The intimacy of lips
POSITION: 1. Ambiguity in the experiment——not including the actual word. 2. Emotionless, alienated – no facial expression – ironic because this is supposed to be a lullaby. 3. Personal reflection of the author – how a word is pronounced, which lullaby was chosen
FORM: 1. Each page contains a breath, a rhythm when flipped through. 2. Black white image – showing age and memory – paper material. 3. Sophisticated and clean. 4. Descending / linear layout takes longer to read verticality so the pace is slower(calm)
Feminine vibe — motherhood — lullaby
>>>> WEEK 02 <<<<
Reconsider the last week’s iteration.

Thoughts: Mix “reading” and “listening” or trying to read sound. When one person listens to another, he or she unconsciously and frequently looks at the movements of the other’s mouth.

Iterations

>>>> Reflection <<<<
Content: I start from my own body, focus on the elements of mouth shape, and conduct communication experiments. As far as the second week of iterations is concerned, I am more focused on the content itself being communicated, and the deeper meaning the content represents is not. Probably because I didn’t resonate with lullabies myself. Do I need to add new content, that is, the ideas I want to convey? This will help me embody the Line of enquiry and establish my position at the same time. I need to keep thinking, and the authorship of the designer needs to be considered. For the first week of iterations, I wanted to do body language exploration. But the body was ignored by me in the process, probably because I didn’t understand the body well enough to make me ignore it subconsciously.
Methods: There seems to be no good visual experimental method at present (I know that the juxtaposition of text and pictures is a direction in form, and make more tries)
Position: When I came up with the idea of How to read a Lullaby, I seemed to link it directly with the instructional. When it comes to the shape of lips, I naturally think of lip reading and associate it with hearing-impaired people. Is it possible to make everyone pay more attention to this group of minority groups? This can be an ethical position.
The iteration of the first week was more inclined to a self-explanation and expression, which closely connected me with enduring human motifs such as mother and childhood. And does the warm lullaby and calm guidance brought by the visual form hint at the pressure of childhood?
