The physical site I chose in this project was a coffee shop called Coffee Berry. It is located in Islington at the corner of Maygood Street and Barnsbury Rd which is a quiet and peaceful community.
I firstly experimented with several methods. Photographing, Mapping my route to the coffee shop, after I read Perec’s Species of Spaces I took his exercise noted everything I saw. The surroundings, interior design, people, etc.
Then, I had a chat with the shop owner Anne and noticed her daily conversations with neighbors around. The connection between customers and the owner in this space really interested me.

I thought the coffee shop Condensed the vitality of the community. So I recorded their conversations and try to express this feeling in a visual way.
Inspired by Joan Miro and Wassily Kandinsky’s work I want to build a visual language system.
And my final outcome was a booklet that show the energy in this space. The left page is the script of the conversation and right page is the visual image of it.
I also made a little motion graphic to enhance the vibrant feeling.
